Junk Journaling 101

Junk journaling is all about creative freedom—there’s no right or wrong way to do it. The universal rule about junk journaling: there are no rules.

step 1

Collect your junk & supplies

Use anything you have: old book pages, magazines, fabric scraps, ticket stubs, handwritten notes, stickers, washi tape —whatever inspires you. Some other helpful supplies include:

  • scissors / paper cutter
  • adhesive
  • markers / pens
  • photo printer

STEP 2

Choose a Base

You can use a blank notebook, an old book, or even make your own journal by binding pages together. It is always fun to personalize the front cover with stickers!

Step 3 (optional)

Take spread inspo from a journal prompt

Check out the Geneva app for monthly prompt inspo!

Step 4

Layer & Collage

Mix and match different textures, colors, and elements. Glue, staple, or tape pieces together to create depth.

Step 5

Add Writing or Doodles

Jot down thoughts, quotes, memories, or sketches to make it more personal.

step 6

Experiment & Play

There are no rules! Try different techniques like painting, stamping, or distressing pages for a vintage look. Junk journaling is about self-expression, so just have fun and let your creativity flow! 💓
